Neville vs. Noetitek™—Part II

Continuing our examination of Neville Goddard’s metaphysical system and it’s comparison to relevant aspects of NoetiTaoism™, this part will focus on Neville’s perennial books: Power of Awareness and Awakened Imagination, both of which have value and will be especially valuable for readers who supplement the information they contain with the material we have provided in our posts on NoetiTao™, and who filter and adjust Neville’s information through the insights and clarifications provided in Part I and in the following.

Power of Awareness begins with a correct foundational statement that: “Consciousness is one.” Then Neville says, “There is no one that is not all that is…” which is another way to say what we explain in NoetiTaoism™, that: All is of the One (space-time-mind) and all appearances of separateness are part of the omniversal illusion—a “persistent illusion,” as Albert Einstein asserted, a kind of dream. So Neville is further correct that “…there is only one ‘I Am’ manifesting in legions of forms.” This fact is revealed in the Holy Bible wherein the truth about God is given to Moses via God’s name: “I am that I am,” and in numerous associated passages in both Testaments. However, this is not explained within the doctrines of any mainstream Christian church, although Jesus of Nazareth reaffirmed it in statements most Christians find puzzling (because the plain truth of his words conflicts with doctrine and preaching, which is a spiritually brutal irony). The truth is available in the Bible without treating is as a mystically contrived allegory to be ostensibly unmasked by a Neville.

Neville says “’I AM’ is the feeling of permanent awareness” and says that such “…awareness of being remains regardless of the degree of forgetfulness of who, where and what…” we are. Forgetfulness, we say, is due to the conditioning of the human organism to accept a patented consensus illusion as the highest Reality and to follow it according to the dictates of organizationally-appointed human authorities. Yes, “awareness remains regardless” because Source Energy Awareness is eternal and beyond Space-Time-Mind. As we pointed out in Part I, Neville seems to have considered awareness and consciousness to be the same, apparently because he did not understand why Awareness is eternal and why and how it is the source of Consciousness. “I Am” aptly describes the self-discovery of the Eternal (in Dimension Zero), the primal revelation that is the first and only true Cause of which the entirety of Omniverse is the Effect, which includes All that is and ever can be.

Neville says that human consciousness is causal, that our experience of reality is arranged according to our conceptualizing, and that reality is changeable by rearranging the “I Am.” This is not untrue but it is skewed because from the perspective of the One, human consciousness is not causal, nor is the engine of Omniverse cause-and-effect, as commonly accepted. This distinction is important because using the power of knowledge of the One requires aligning with the higher perspective. There is one Cause and one Effect and none else. All things are, and Neville had learned this from “Abdullah.” Creation (construction by selection) and perception (experiencing via imagination) are two sides of the same intraoperative coin and this one metaphorical coin is used to purchase (manifest in space-time experience) all fruits of desire.

What we perceive is what we achieve. See it to be it, or to have it or do it—feel it to reveal it. Human experience in Space-Time-Mind is a function of selection, a concatenation of selections beginning prior to a given embodiment and ongoing throughout and beyond human experience. Again, all things are. If we associate desire with a gas pedal, fear (product of doubt) serves as a brake (has opposite function and effect). Neville is correct in saying, “…desire becomes the promise of its own fulfillment”—or can become—because the fulfillment of every desire already exists in the everlasting Now of the All-ness of Omniverse. As Neville says, the key to making something desired “real” is through “deliberate conscious control of imagination,” to which we add that: the gas pedal of desire expresses a range of degrees of intensity, and intensity of desire is measurable in terms of the extent to which imagination is multisensory. Low-level and uncontrolled desire is only visual and foggy. Nevertheless, imagination is ceaseless, even if only working like an idling automobile engine; we reside in a realm of continuous imagining.

Neville uses the words “assume” and “assumption” as operative with regard to his alleged Law of Assumption. There is no such Law in NoetiTaoism™, and the better terms are “know” and “knowledge.” Assumption and knowledge are not synonymous. To say that you know is a far more powerful statement of certainty than to say you assume. People assume many things that never come to fruition (never arrive in experience). When Neville speaks to the fact that his system sometimes fails, we see the use of “assume” and “assumption” to be the prime explanation. To know is to be completely free of doubt, and to be free of doubt is the definition of having faith: knowing the truth of things not directly available to the five ground-level bodily senses.

Awakened Imagination begins with a good discussion of the common confusion and misunderstandings about the concept and definition of imagination, despite that Neville himself apparently lacked full knowledge of its nature and source. Through Noetitek™ we found that Imagination is the product of Awareness and that Imagination precedes the operation of Consciousness (and precedes word-based thinking) in Omniverse. Einstein was correct in saying that: “Imagination is more important than knowledge,” although he also did not know how and why that is true (if he had, he would have achieved the elusive Unified Field Theory).

Neville was not correct in saying that “reality lies within and not without.” Our reality is in us and we are in it because the larger truth is that the two are seamlessly one. Similarly, Neville (as a recovering adherent to Christian dogma) felt the need to (reactively, apparently) deny “the literal” in favor of “the psychological” when each is an expression of the other. Jesus can be a person as well as an archetype and analog. It is also skewing truth to say that imagination needs awakening considering that Imagination, like Awareness, is of the Eternal and never “sleeps.” The challenge to intentionally direct imagination is better examined in terms of attention, perception, and belief (higher knowledge). Yet he was exactly correct when he said: “Imagination is the very gateway of reality.” Awareness, through Imagination, is the creational process responsible for the totality of Omniverse.

However, we disagree with Neville’s advice that one should revisit each past day, in the imagination, and then re-imagine it with improvements. This is similar to Carlos Castaneda’s process of “recapitulation,” as well as certain procedures used in Dianetics, NLP (neurolinguistic programming), and a few other methodologies intended to release roots of trauma. While those approaches reportedly benefit some people (such as those who lack self-mastery of their mental powers and who habitually or unconsciously replay unhappy events), it is more effective and efficient to focus the imagination only on having desired positive feelings, experiences, and results. For most people it is unnecessary, if not counterproductive, to revisit unpleasant experiences. The positive approach strengthens the “muscles” of will.

The material that Neville presents in the second-to-last chapter of Awakened Imagination is the most important of all: that belief (meta-knowledge) governs quality of consciousness and establishes boundaries for imagination and manifestation of desires in time and space (our words). He could have said more about this earlier on and in plainer language, in order to ensure that this critical information would be embedded. For example, he might have added that a person’s “fruits” reveal his or her most deeply held beliefs and values—whatever they hold to be true. And he could have summed-up by saying that nothing is impossible and that every life experience is managed by consciously selected or unconsciously acquired “states of consciousness” that house beliefs accompanied by congruent facilitative thoughts, feelings, and envisioned experiences.

Noetitek™ is a scientific system equipped to approach all matters physical and metaphysical. NoetiTaoism™, as the philosophical extension of that, can be applied in much the way that Neville used his New Thought philosophy to deploy a “system of magic.” As stated in Part I, NoetiTaoism™ is more than positive-thinking toward fulfilling desires. However, with the exceptions noted in the foregoing article, Noetitek™ and NoetiTaoism™ substantially validate the practicality of Neville’s system, and by using our insights to adjust his directives its efficacy is further assured.
